Okay, so this one’s going to shock you a bit, but here we go… I don’t drive.
Yes, you read that correctly. Now calm down and let me explain. I have my driver’s licence. I passed my test first time. I drove for many years when I was younger. But then I stopped and haven’t been behind the wheel since.
I did have a big crash when I was about 18. I was borrowing my parents’ car when a lamppost ran down the road and jumped onto the bonnet. What a story that was!
That didn’t stop me from driving though.
It wasn’t until I was about 21 – when I was driving into town and a woman hurled herself across a pedestrian crossing without waiting for me to stop – that I started to wonder if driving was for me. Luckily I saw that woman at the last minute, so slammed on the brakes. But what if next time luck wasn’t on my side?
That’s when I stopped.
Not everyone can be good at everything, and while I enjoyed some aspects of driving, I’m far more interested in what’s going on inside my mind than on the road.
I can fly. Well, I once had a lesson in a Piper Cherokee.
And I love riding my bike.
Also, walking everywhere is great for my health (see Chocolate).
So, for now at least, I think it’s best I stay off the roads!
