Travel for me is like waking up. It offers me a sense of enlightenment and enrichment of my human experience. Each country I visit gives me the opportunity to look at myself, others and life in a unique way. It changes and broadens my perspective, and I love it.
For much of my early travel, I backpacked on a budget, enduring a vast array of insects and noises. After kids, I had to be more cautious, but the better regulated hostels served us really well as a family. Now in my later years, I place a high value on sleep, but still happily find my way to simple accommodation if it comes with quiet. Because the further I can make my budget stretch, the farther I can travel.
There is still so much of the world I’d like to visit, but so far I have managed to take myself to the following countries – here is both a visual representation, and a list:

How many of these countries have you also visited? And which was your favourite? I’d love to hear about your experiences and compare them to mine – here are some photos:
As for what travel has helped me to write, that’s all over here.
