Stories have immense power. They can change the way you think about life, let you escape from the world for a while, keep you up late at night… I love books!
So do children. Stories are magical. Stories can inspire and excite. Stories can help children make sense of the world, and that’s why for the past two years I’ve joined my Northern Beaches Writers’ Group to Write-a-Book-in-a-Day and give the gift of story to sick children at Westmead Children’s Hospital. The challenge is run nationally by The Kids’ Cancer Project, as competing in the challenge includes collecting donations from friends, family and others passionate about stories, and raising funds for research into the prevention of childhood cancer.
This year, with your support, I’d like to raise more research funds and produce another fantastic story to give the children at Westmead. On Saturday 15th August, my team and I will be ready to write at 8am, so that by 8pm we will have produced a full book from nothing! We will write, edit, illustrate, print and bind an entire children’s novel in just twelve hours! We’ve done it before – in 2013 we did it so well we were awarded Best Book and Best Illustrations for our story Scribbles in the Dark, and in 2014 we again got Best Book for A Dolphin For Naia. Will we make it a hat trick this year?
Only time will tell.
The only thing that’s certain is that we need your sponsorship! We are doing out bit but we need YOUR support. ALL money raised goes to The Kids’ Cancer Project at Westmead Children’s Hospital. Plus you get a tax receipt. So please click here and select NORTHERN BEACHES WRITERS’ GROUP to sponsor our team.
If you donate before 15th August, your name will even be included as a supporter in our book, which will go on the shelves at the children’s library at Westmead.
To go one step further you could also purchase one or both of our award-winning books from 2014 and 2013, as sales go towards The Kids’ Cancer Project.
They’re available from all good online retailers (such as Amazon).
