What music do they like?
I’m writing a crime novel set partly in rural Australia, and there are plenty of Aussie bands to fuel my words. INXS, Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel, The Church, The Go Betweens, The Sunnyboys… Oz Rock was made for the dusty, washboard roads of the outback. Made for listening to on jukeboxes in old pubs while fans swirl overhead and a 40º heat blisters paint outside. For pumping out on the stereo on roadtrips along coastal highways. The soundtrack to summer holidays in caravan parks. But sometimes, Oz Rock bands take a melancholy turn, and ‘Heavy Heart’ by You Am I is a perfect example of that. Never tire of this track.
